Ladies and gentlemen, hello. Today the Internet service was down at Hayakawa North Elementary School, and so this post has come a bit late. Having lost the Internet today, I realized what a truly indispensable thing the net has become for my way of life. Especially for me, the Internet is like a kind of “lifeline.” Every day I email and chat with friends living in the US who are important to me, and I research class materials and other various information, so the Internet is an extremely useful thing. Using an Internet phone service called Skype, I can video chat in real-time for free. Even over thousands of miles, I can see my friends’ faces while holding a normal conversation with them. It’s amazing how wonderful technology has come to be taken for granted in our lives these days. When I was young, computers were extremely expensive, and they could only be used for things like word processing and simple games, and the Internet was only just being developed. I wonder what my children will think of the technologies we currently use.

However, the fact that technology is progressing is not necessarily always a good thing. Accordingly, while preserving the positive things from the past and present, it is necessary that we choose the path of progress that is correct.

　諸君、こんにちは。今日は早川北小学校のインターネットサービスが調子悪かったので、ブログが遅くなってしまいました。今日はネットが無くなって初めて、メール等はどんなに人生に欠かせないものになった事に気付きました。特に、私にとっては「救命索」のような存在です。毎日、米国にいる大切な友人とのメールやチャットしたり、教材研究や色々な情報を調べたりするので、大変便利なものですね。Skypeというインターネットホーンサービスを使って、無料でリアルタイムビデオチャットが出来ます。幾万キロメートルの距離があっても、友達の顔を見ながら普通に会話することが出来て、なんと素晴らしい技術が当たり前のようになって来ましたね。私の幼い時にコンピュータやパソコンというのはとんでもなく高いもので、ワープロや簡単なゲームしか出来ませんでしたし、インターネットはまだまだ開発中でした。私の子孫には現代の技術はどのように見えるのでしょう。
　
　だが、技術が開発しつつであることは必ずいいことだというわけは限りません。したがって、過去や現代の良いものを保存しながら、正しい進行の道を選べなければなりません。
