久しぶり!

お久しぶりです！

Long time no see! Today the students at Hayakawa North Elementary School made mochi. The steam from the fresh rice, the thunk of the mallet, and the background of heavy snow was perfect. Japan at its best.

The anko, kinako, goma, and daikon mochi was all delicious. The rice was taken from the Kita Sho rice fields. I remember planting the rice. All of the students helped make the mochi - even the pre-schoolers!

It has been 4 months since I last saw everyone, and all of the students have grown so much. Not just height, either... I wonder how much everyone will grow before I visit Hayakawa again.
